I have often imagined myself standing on the rim of the Grand Canyon at sunset; I try to visualize the spectacular colours subtly changing as the sun edges lower toward the horizon. It’s a relaxing exercise for me.
Over the years, friends have told me that there are canyons in the U.S. Southwest that are even more impressive than the Grand Canyon. Bryce Canyon is one that usually comes up.
Ken and I have been talking about a trip to that region for probably as long as we’ve known each other. And now it’s time, we’re leaving in two days for a mondo road trip.
We will be driving what’s known as the Grand Circle. It’s a great loop that starts west of Denver and goes through a land of canyons and mesas – cowboy movie country. It brings you to a series of State and National parks, the big ones like Arches, Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon and Monument Valley.
The house is cluttered with gear, there’s still a long to-do list, but our departure day can’t come fast enough. I’m itching to get going. See you on the road.
